The Velaslavasay Panorama
Founded in the year 2000 and originally located in the Tswuun Tswuun Rotunda in Hollywood, today the Velaslavasay Panorama makes its home in the Historic West Adams District's Union Theater, one of Los Angeles's first cinemas. Their feature presentation is a 360-degree panoramic exhibition: The Shenjiang Panorama, depicting an urban Chinese landscape during the years 1910 to 1930. The panorama is an early ancestor of the motion picture, "encircl[ing] the spectator within a fully enveloping atmosphere; a vast painting of a continuous surrounding landscape, accompanied by sound stimulation and three-dimensional elements, affords the viewer an opportunity to experience a complete sensory phenomenon."
In addition to this remarkable offering, the Velaslavasay Panorama provides visitors with a garden oasis, replete with grottoes and wondrous plant life. They host a variety of fascinating public and private events, from illustrated lectures to film screenings.
